On a particularly tough scoring day with strong, gusting winds and the 1929 Ryder Cup course playing it's full distance off the Blue markers a score over par was always going to be good enough for victory as the majority of golfers failed to contend with the Leeds monster.
Curtis, a one handicapper, produced superb rounds of 73 and 76 to win on a card play-off from Rotherham's Sam Haywood who was the only player in the field to produce a sub-par round as he also amassed 149 (7 over par) with rounds of 70 and 79.
Simon Bell from Shipley Golf Club took third place (79, 73) with fourth place going to Ryan Tuppen who was the highest placed host club member after scores of 76 and 78. The scoring proved so tough that the CSS for the day rose to 76 in the morning and 77 in the afternon.
Adam Best from Cleveland Golf Club, who had already secured enough points to be crowned The Yorkshire Order of Merit Champion for 2007 before the season ending finale, came home in 11th place with rounds of 80 and 77. However, the victory for Curtis saw him jump into third position in the Order of Merit with Haywood still finishing as runner up.

4th: R. Tuppen (Moortown): 76, 78=154
5th: P. Snowden (Moortown): 77, 78=155
Even with double points on offer in the last tournament of the season, The Moortown Masters, he cannot be overtaken as he has a 422 point lead.
However it is still very close to call for the final places as anybody within the top 16 could mathematically finish second and with prizes down to fourth place it is still all to play for.

The win for Best followed victories at York and Cleveland and with top three finishes at Bradford, Sand Moor and Teesside he is now virtually assured of being crowned Yorkshire Order of Merit Champion.

Aisbitt put together rounds of 69 and 70 for a five under par total on a breezy day. With only seven shots separating the top ten places it proved to be a close scoring event with Cleveland's Adam best finishing third on 142 out of 58 competitors.
Aisbitt made eight birdies and just three bogies over both rounds, holes 10 and 12 proving crucial with birdies in each round on both holes. Nelson also produced eight birdies but a flurry of bogeys on his opening round proved costly as he reached the turn in three over par.
The course was in great condition and the introduction of new ponds on several holes, especially the one guarding the 18th, were praised highly.
The day itself had a poignant note as only a few days prior to the event the first winner of the Trophy from Teesside Golf Club sadly passed away. He was Wally Hill who won in 1970 and his place in the golf clubs history was remembered on the day.
Leading Scores:
R. Aisbitt (Brancepeth): 69, 70=139
M. Nelson (Teesside): 73, 68=141

A near flawless display in the morning which saw six birdies and just the solitary bogey gave him a three shot lead at lunch over Cleveland's Adam Best and fellow Harrogate union player Tom Curtis from Pannal.
Whilst Best struggled to a 72, off his plus 2 handicap, in the afternoon for a 141 total it looked like Curtis may claim the title after adding a level par 71 but Bradley hung in there and his 139 score was good enough. Best finished in third place while a pair of 71's for plus three man Simon Coombes from Pontefract saw him finish in fourth.
The third place finish was good enough for Best to reclaim top spot in the order of merit. He now leads by 82 points from Stephen Brennan (Wheatley Golf Club) with Moortown's Nigel Sweet a further 58 points behind with just three events remaining.
Leading Scores:
C. Bradley (Otley): 66, 73=139
T. Curtis (Pannal): 69, 71=140
A. Best (Cleveland): 69, 72= 141
S. Coombes (Pontefract): 71, 71=142
Dyson, playing off a handicap of scratch scored two rounds of 69 to claim victory by two shots from three players including Moortown's Plus 1 handicapper Nicholas McCarthy who fired a 72 in the morning backed up with a 68 in the afternoon to land runners up spot virtue of a better second 18 holes.
Barry Downing from the Hallamshire Golf Club finished third with rounds of 71 and 69 whilst Meltham youngster James Thompson finished fourth with a two rounds of 70, also for a 140 total.
The low round of the day went to Rob Hillas from Northcliffe Golf Club after a first round 67 but he faded badly in the afternoon with a 75 to finish in 7th place. West End's Sam Bridges, a three handicapper, impressed with two rounds of 71 that earned him the best nett prize on a day when CSS was 71 in the morning and 69 in the afternoon.
Dyson, 34, from Wakefield is a regular member of the Woodsome Hall scratch team and whose 138 total always looked good enough to claim the title he won 12 months ago with two rounds of 70.
Leading Scores:
Chris Dyson (Woodsome Hall) 69, 69; 138
Nicholas McCarthy (Moortown) 72, 68; 140
Barry Downing (Hallamshire) 71, 69; 140
James Thompson (Meltham) 70, 70; 140
Mikhail Ishaq (Bonday) 73, 69; 142

The event scheduled to be played on Sunday 13th August at Cookridge Hall Golf Club was abandoned after several golfers pulled out during the last week. Gary Day, Managing Director at Cookridge Hall commented, "After an extremely promising start, I had over the week running up to the event nearly a dozen withdrawals. Sure enough I decided to pull the plug as it wasn't viable to run given the course could be utilised by members. We may try again next year."
The event scheduled to be played on Wednesday 8th August at Leeds Golf Club has not attracted enough entries and therefore the club have found it necessary to cancel this years event. Club Chairman Kevin Fineran hopes the event will receive better support in the future and is confident the event will take place next year.
McCarthy scored rounds of 72 and 69 for a one under par total to pip Wheatley's Steve Brennan by one shot and his brother Duncan by two.
On a day that improved as the day progressed the scoring was higher than usual forcing the Standard Scratch Score up to 73 for both rounds. Rob Hillas from Northcliffe lead at the halfway stage with a one under par 70 in the morning drizzle but struggled to a 77 in the afternoon sunshine, that left him in fifth position. Nigel Sweet of Moortown finished fourth with two rounds of 73.
It is all change at the top of the Order of Merit with Brennan now leading with Sweet in second place, Adam Best and Sam Haywood both drop two places with the top eight places now very bunched.
Leading Scores:
N. McCarthy (Moortown): 72, 69=141
S. Brennan (Wheatley): 71,71=142
D. McCarthy (Moortown): 71, 73= 144
N. Sweet (Moortown): 73, 73=146
R. Hillas (Northcliffe): 74,70=144
Trailing by five shots at the halfway stage the 16 year old Oakdale member shot the low score of the day, a two under par 69, to tie with Hillas who scored rounds of 74 and 70.
The play-off was decided at the first extra hole, the 185 yard par three 18th hole, when Wilding hit his shot to four feet and Hillas, who came up short of the green, failed to get up and down and conceded the hole.
Rotherham's David Booth shared the lead after a first round 70 and his afternoon round of 75 gave him third place outright.
Order of Merit leader Adam Best finished well down the field although recovered in the afternoon with a 73 after a nightmare morning round of 80. None of his nearest competitors were competiting in this event so the leaderboard remains largely the same.
Leading Scores:
C. Wilding (Oakdale): 75, 69=144
R. Hillas (Northcliffe): 74,70=144
D. Booth (Rotherham): 70,75=145
A. Houldsworth (Keighley): 75, 71= 146
C. Bradley (Otley): 74, 72=146
P. Thomas (West Bradford): 76, 71=147
A. Smith (Garforth): 73, 74=147
In doing so he picked up double points (400) in The Yorkshire Order of Merit. Sweet won by one stroke from fellow club team mate Paul Snowden and by two from Adam Hodkinson of Hallowes Golf Club.
Sweet and Snowden were joined in the last 32 matchplay stage by fellow Moortown member Duncan McCarthy and a host of other leading names from the county including Steve Uzzell, Dean Wright, Tom Hesketh, Steve Brennan, Danny Willett, Sam Haywood, Robert Hillas and Martin Brown all of whom will have their eyes set on becoming the county champion on Saturday.
Leading Scores:
N. Sweet 68
P. Snowden 69
A. Hodkinson 70
C. Ramsey 71
The tournament is now expected to be an 18 hole qualifying event followed by the matchplay knockout phase. Players should use their Round 2 start times for their games on Wednesday.
Whitwham closed with a 69, the best afternoon score, to win the trophy by one shot from Rotherham's Jack Walker and Courtney Steven from The Chase Golf Club. They finished one ahead of first round leader Steven Brennan who was only able to add a 77 to his blistering morning 67.
However with Walkers and Brennan's finishes, Adam Best's absence, Dean Wright picking up zero points and Sam Haywood only collecting 15, the Order of Merit is not quite as clear cut as it was prior to the tournament and going into the Yorkshire Amateur in a couple of weeks.
Leading Scores:
S. Whitwham (Bedale): 73,69=142
J. Walker (Rotherham): 68,75=143
C. Steven (The Chase): 71,72=143
S. Brennan (Baildon): 67, 77= 144
On a day when scores soared Haywood captured the title by the narrowest of margins, a card play-off, after three players tied on 146 totals. Home club member Steve Uzzell, out in the first grouping, set the early pace by adding a 77 to his blistering three under par morning round of 69. Haywood then came in with a splendid one under par afternoon round that gave him the same total after an opening 75.
That meant Haywood sat in the clubhouse as the leader due to a better last 18 holes, however he had to wait until the final match to come off the course to be assured of the victory as home talent John Fisher-Ulliott also tied on 146 after two rounds of 73. The 14 year old, playing in the last group, claimed the runners-up spot, again virtue of a better second round.
Wheatley's experienced campaigner Steve Brennan finished fourth with a 148 total and Dan Thomas (Baildon) had 149 for fifth place whilst Jim Murphy (Wike Ridge) and Roger Roper (Wike Ridge) tied on 150 for sixth and seventh respectively.
The win was Haywood's fourth top seven finish this season out of four starts and moves him into second place in the Order of Merit, closing the gap on leader Adam Best (Cleveland GC) to just 103 points. The Order of Merit now looks like a three horse race between Best, Haywood and Wike Ridge's Dean Wright.
Leading Scores:
S. Haywood (Rotherham): 75,71=146
J. Fisher Ulliott (Hornsea): 73,73=146
S. Uzzell (Hornsea): 69,77=146
D. Thomas (Baildon): 72, 77= 149
S. Brennan (Wheatley): 148
J. Murphy (Wike Ridge): 150
R. Roper (Wike Ridge): 150
J. Miller (Fulford): 152
Hewitt scored solid rounds of 75 and 74 for a 1 over par total on the testing links layout. Founded in 1874 and the first golf club ever to be built in Durham or Yorkshire the links course bared its teeth, in relatively calm conditions, with only three players scoring sub-par rounds.
Hewitt held off the fast finishing Best, playing only after failing to progress to the final day of The Brabazon Trophy, and three other golfers who all finished a shot back on 150.
Best extended his lead in the Order of Merit with rounds of 77 and 73 which has now included four top three finishes in just five starts. A clustered leaderboard saw home club member Simon Neill, Seaham's David Patterson and Heworth member Brian Ross also finish in the prizes.
Leading Scores:
C. Hewitt (Beamish): 75,74=149
A. Best (Cleveland): 77,73=150
S. Neill (Seaton Carew): 76,74=150
D. Patterson (Seaham): 75,75=150
B. Ross (Heworth): 74,76=150
Campbell, playing in the first group out, not only had to endure a 90 minute morning fog delay but then had four hours to hang around in the clubhouse to see if his 1 under par total would be beaten. Fortunately for him it wasn't!
The fog delay resulted in the tournament being reduced to 30 holes, 18 in the morning and 12 on a makeshift course in the afternoon.
Although Campbell's 69 and 46 for a 115 total never looked like being beaten some people came close. Dean Wright from Wike Ridge carded a closing 45 to go with his opening 72 which got within two shots and earned the experienced player a second Yorkshire Order of Merit runners-up spot this year, after his second place at Bradford a few weeks earlier. Pontefract player Simon Coumbe also threatened with scores of 73 and 46 as did Richard Jones from Wath who was only two back after the first round but a four over par 49 in the second round cost him dearly. Edward Battye, Dewsbury Golf Club, took fifth place with scores of 75 and 46 and tied with Richard Bee from Phoenix who's morning score of 70 was the closest to Campbell.
Leading Scores:
S. Campbell (Hallowes): 69,46=115
D. Wright (Wike Ridge): 72,45=117
S. Coumbe (Pontefract): 73,46=119
R. Jones (Wath): 71,49=120
E. Battye (Dewsbury): 75,46=121
J. Walker (Rotherham): 72,49=121
R. Bee (Phoenix): 70,51=121
Adam Best (Cleveland GC) claimed his second consecutive Yorkshire Order of Merit title when he lifted The York Rose Bowl at Strensall. After a morning round of 72 Best closed with a superb two under round of 68 to claim victory by just one shot from Steve Brennan (Wheatley GC).
Best rightly has the claim that he is the most in-form golfer in Yorkshire as his victory came exactly a week after he had won The Cleveland Salver at his home course and eight days after a third place finish at Bradford in the Hawksworth Trophy.
Andrew Rigby from Cookridge Hall led at the halfway stage after his own 68 in the morning and despite adding a 74 in the afternoon was the clubhouse leader for a long period. When Sam Hayward (Rotherham) added a level par round to his opening 72 it looked set for a play-off. However, in a thrilling finale, Brennan then looked like he had snatched victory after shooting an afternoon 70 to go with his earlier 71 to lead on a total of 141.
Best, playing in the penultimate group, eventually had the last say and his 68 gave him a victory which means he extends his lead in the Order of Merit.
Leading Scores:
A. Best (Cleveland): 72,68=140
S. Brennan (Wheatley): 71,70=141
S. Hayward (Rotherham): 72,70=142
A. Rigby (Cookridge Hall): 68,74=142
L. Grant (York): 73,70=143
Adam Best claimed The Cleveland Salver around his home course at the first extra sudden-death play-off hole in front of delighted host club members.
Best saw off Alex Webster (Moor Allerton) with a regulation par three on the first extra hole after both players had recorded scores of 71 and 72 for 143 totals.
In the play-off Webster missed the green short then chipped up to four feet whilst Best hit his tee shot to 15 feet and despite missing his birdie effort he was conceded the hole and title when Webster missed his swinging par putt.
A glut of players finished on level par 144 totals. Many of whom dropped a shot at the reachable par 5 final hole when a birdie would have won the event outright and a par would have included them in the play-off. One of those was Nick McCarthy who was trying to eclipse his father's triumph when he (Dave) won the event in 1978.
Leading Scores:
A. Best (Cleveland): 71,72=143
A. Webster (Moor Allerton): 71,72=143

A sizzling morning 67 from Yorkshire County player Simon Bell put him on course for his first Hawksworth Trophy Title.
Bell, from Shipley Golf Club, carded the impressive 4 under score in bright but windy conditions, then added an afternoon round of 73 to win by one shot from Wyke Ridge star Dean Wright who carded 71 followed by 70.
On a day that no other player in the field, apart from Bell, broke 70 Adam Best (Cleveland GC) finished in 3rd position with rounds of 70 and 72 with Jack Walker and Joe Marshall (both 73, 71) finished 4th and 5th respectively.
Leading Scores:
S. Bell (Shipley): 67,73=140

Plus 1 handicapper Duncan McCarthy from Moortown Golf Club made the perfect start to the season by claiming the Auchterlonie Spoon at a sunny Selby Golf Club.
McCarthy returned scores of 69 and 70 for a 139 total and victory by two shots from a trio of players including fellow club mate Andrew Jones. Sam Haywood (Rotherham) and Neil Harker-Bell (Bradford Moor) also finished tied runners-up on 141.
A Chamberlain (Burghley Park) had led after the first round with a best of the day 68 but tailed off in the afternoon with a 76 finishing tied 8th. That 68 was also matched by D Clarke (Woodhall Spa) in the afternoon but his opening 77 meant that he finished 6 shots back.
2006 Order of Merit runner-up, Richard Broadley from Huddersfield Golf Club, scored rounds of 72 and 71 for a tied 6th position finish.
Leading Scores:
D. McCarthy (Moortown): 69,70=139
