- The Elland Gentlemen's Annual Dinner was held at their clubhouse on Friday 10th November. The President of the Halifax, Huddersfield and District Union of Golf Clubs was on duty at the Sheffield Union so Mr Albert Guest Immediate Past President stood in for him.

- A Golfing rivalry raised more than £3,000 for charity when Bradley Park Golf Club's Irish-born and second generation Irish members played against their English counterparts in an 11-a-side, Ryder Cup style event in County Galway, Ireland.

- Chris Hanson missed out on qualification for the Final Stage of European Qualifying School after a disappointing final round 76. He finished in a tie for 36th place after a splendid third round 68 had given him an outside chance to progress - by finishing in the top 19 places.
However, the Crosland Heath youngster, who will compete in a number of Challenge Tour events next season, can hold his head high after a creditable attempt to progress to the pinnacle of European golf. After the initial disappointment of missing out he can reflect on a season which has provided more highs than lows. More

- David Chapman and Nick Hirst made in at unbelievable three-in-a-row by winning the pro-am section in the Halifax and Huddersfield District Alliance meeting held at Dewsbury Golf Club.

- Woodsome Hall held their annual dinner last weekend. Pictured below from the left is Edwin Hirst (Vice President WHGC), Geoff Headey who proposed the toast to the guests, Dr Phil Shaw (Captain WHGC), Richard Holgate (President of the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs) who proposed the toast 'Woodsome', Jack Taylor who is a retired teacher and was guest speaker and Terry Crewe (Vice President WHGC).

- Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath) finished a creditable 9th place in the end of season Tour Championship on the EuroPro Tour.
Hanson who briefly challenged after an opening round of 69, followed by a 72, fell back with a closing round of 75. He earned £1,200 for his finish. The 9th place finish secured Hanson finished in 7th place in the Order of Merit.

- Nick Hirst, steward at Outlane Golf Club, is the new president of the Halifax, Huddersfield Winter Golf Alliance. He succeeds Elland's Eric Caton after the announcement at the annual meeting held after the recent Willow Valley competition.

- New Stromberg model Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath) jets out to The Azores today for the Satar Open which is followed by the end of season finale featuring the top 50 on the EuroPro Tour the following week.
It is a couple of weeks which could turn what has already been a successful campaign into a highly profitable one as Challenge Tour automatic pre-qualifying is up for grabs.

- Ian Marsland put together two excellent rounds as he was crowned the Halifax Golf Champion. A 70 and 71 for a 141 total landed him the crown by one shot from fellow West End player Steve Martin. More

- Promising local golfer Richard Broadley will turn his back on the amateur game to concentrate on making a living as a golf professional.
He will join friend and fellow professional Chris Hanson on the professional circuit from next season although he is expected to concentrate on the West Yorkshire circuit unlike Hanson who has competed nationally on the EuroPro Tour. Full Story

shots in the MCP Classic at Ufford Park Golf Club as he added
a 4-over par 74 to his opening round 72.

04/10/06 - The Yorkshire Inter District Union Junior Club Championship
was hosted by the Halifax
Huddersfield District Union of Golf Clubs at the Woodsome Hall
Golf Club on Sunday 1st October 2006.
Last
year Meltham were the winning team, however, this year the
title went to The West Bowling Golf Club (72 points) with
Meltham as Runners Up. Toby garret scored 32 points, James
Thompson 37 points and Alex Battye 33 points. The best two
were selected giving Meltham a total of 70 points.
It
was a fine day, one short shower, and the standard of golf was
good. The Woodsome Hall
Golf Club were perfect hosts for the event, the course brought
forward many praises and the help of the staff, the
attention to fine detail by the management and caterers
helped make the day a success for all.
Prior
to the championship The Halifax Huddersfield and District
Union of Golf Clubs made some presentations. Alex Battye was
presented as winner of the Junior Order of Merit and Meltham
were awarded the HHDUGC Junior League Team Shield.

Selbie of Selbie Opticians who are the sponsors of the Junior
order of merit.

- David Astin (Hebden Bridge) just scraped through the
first stages of qualification for the European Tour. His four
round total of 280 (71, 70, 67, 72) meant that he gained the
last of the 39 qualifying places.

- Chris Hanson is six shots off the lead after the first

on the back nine, and two birdies.
