30/06/06 - Helen Searle from West End Golf Club won the Yorkshire Junior Championship at South Leeds Golf Club with scores of 77 and 73 for a 150 Total.

29/06/06 - The Fixby trio who progressed to the matchplay stages of the Yorkshire Amateur Championship failed to make it to day two of the knockout event. Richard Oddy and Brad Tupman both fell at the first hurdle whilst Richard Broadley exited at the last 16 stage.

29/06/06 - CHRIS MEAR'S in-form Halifax-Huddersfield side can be in the mix for the Inter-District title. They turned in a tip-top show in handing Sheffield their second beating of the season and two defeats, they always say, as good as puts a team out of the championship running.

28/06/06 - Unfancied Castlefields Golf Club ended Willow Valley's 3 year tenure on the Jack Sykes Handicap Team Championship in emphatic style at Elland Golf Club by winning it for the first time in the clubs 103 year history.

Played controversially as a gross Stableford competition the four man team of Shaun Harris, James Lord, Richard Badrock and Rodney Gaukroger romped home by 9 points from Marsden Golf Club. Meltham finished third. Harris claimed the best individual points tally with 31 points whilst Willow Valley, champions for the last 3 years, trailed in in last position.

The team victory is an amazing achievement for the six hole golf club from Rastrick, in a year which could yet still deliver more highs .... and more silverware.

At roughly the half way stage of the season the EGU registered club are well in contention for both the HHDUGC 1st Division Scratch and Handicap leagues and still in the hunt for the Handicap Foursomes title. It is fast becoming possible that 2006 could be their finest year since the club was founded in 1903.

Despite last place and relegation in the HHDUGC Team Championship at Crosland Heath earlier in the season their scratch team have rustled feathers in the top league and established teams like Bradley Hall, Meltham and West End will have to pull out all the stops if they are to prevent the underdogs from taking the title and completing a rise through the ranks akin to Wimbledon and Wigan through the football leagues.

Whilst in the handicap league Castlefields lie just one point and one place behind leaders Willow Valley and with a game in hand are firm favourites to take the crown and repeat their 2001 success.

28/06/06 - The Fixby trio of Richard Broadley, Richard Oddy and Brad Tupman have all qualified for the matchplay stages of the Yorkshire Amateur Championship around their home course.

Broadley fired rounds of 72 and 71 and finished in 9th position overall. Oddy added a 71 to his opening 73 and ended qualifying in 13th position. Tupman carded a 74 after his impressive first round 70 to finish 18th.

A number of other local golfers failed to make the top 32 which progress to a matchplay format over the next three days. Roger Hunt (Meltham) came closest missing by just one shot as did Robert Scollick (Woodsome Hall).

24/06/06 - Meltham Golf Club continued their impressive rise through the Yorkshire ranks by progressing to the 3rd division at Brough Golf Club. They finished in the final promotion place on 603 with Toby Garret leading the way with rounds of 71 and 73. Halifax West End agonisingly finished in 7th position.

23/06/06 - BRADLEY Park's Jamie Coverley teamed up with three host club members to win the Yorkshire PGA Championship pro-am at Willow Valley.

22/06/06 - Both David Astin (Hebden Bridge) and Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath) lie in equal 11th position after the 2nd round of the Kronenbourge Classic at Whitekirk Golf Club. Both easily making the cut.

22/06/06 - HUDDERSFIELD'S Alex Keighley has won the third event in the Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Women's Professional Golf Association One Day Series at Forest Pines Golf Club, with a near perfect round of three under par.

21/06/06 - Experienced campaigner John Oxley from the Huddersfield Golf Club claimed the Huddersfield Audi sponsored HHDUGC Seniors Championship at Bradley Park Golf Club.

Oxley fought of strong competition from favourite Bob Wallace (Crosland Heath) and home club member Alan Crawshaw by shooting an impressive gross 73 to win by one shot from Crawshaw. Wallace finished two shots back after a 75.

The inaugural event, presented by Mr Horrocks-Taylor, was won by the Huddersfield Golf Club with a combined gross score of 230. The team consisting of Oxley (73), Eric Lord (77) and Douglas Gordon (80).

21/06/06 - David Astin (Hebden Bridge) won the Kronenbourge Classic Pro-Am with a superb four under 68  at Whitekirk Golf Club to win by 3 shots. The first round proper was abandoned today due to high winds and will resume Thursday morning.

18/06/06 - Chris Hanson will attempt to qualify for The Open at Notts Golf Club on the 5th July. A number of other professionals and amateurs from the region will also attempt to reach the local final qualifying stages for the 135th Championship to be held at Hoylake Golf Club on the Wirral.

Willow Valley Trio Lee Shepherd, Wayne Pendlebury and Neil Hobbs will begin at Pannal Golf Club, as will Jason Wood (Stadium Golf), Darren Arber (West End) and Gareth Moore (Hanging Heaton). Promising touring professional David Astin from Hebden Bridge will join them. Whilst amateurs Andrew Shaw (Bradley Hall) and Edward Battye (Dewsbury District) will try their luck at Pannal and Notts respectively.
