- 2006 sees the
start of Tri Golf in several schools in the Halifax &
Huddersfield area.
Steve
King and Ann Henderson, principal teachers involved in the
development of Tri Golf in this area have recruited among
others, Ron Tickle, Head Professional at Lightcliffe Golf
Club, Paul Everitt, Head Professional at Crow Nest Park Golf
Club, Alex Keighley, Assistant to Paul Carmen, Fixby Golf Club
and star amateur, Andy Shaw, Bradley Hall's Union player to
run these classes in different schools.
Tri Golf is not only
Golf, as participation requires the use of numbers and mathematical
skills, it was felt that a Numeracy Activity Book could help to
teach maths through golf and golf through maths. To ensure that this
would be used successfully within the classroom, the book was
developed by maths specialists and aligns with specific curriculum
standards, for length, shape, time and weight elements at Key Stages
I and II, and each worksheet is marked with the relevant standard at
the bottom of the page (e.g. L2, S14, T12, etc.). Copies of the
Numeracy Activity Book can be obtained from the Golf Foundation
(01920 876200).
The idea is to give
children the chance to try this great sport, if they then enjoy it
they will have a chance to take it further with one of the above
mentioned instructors.
