Crosland Heath's Hanson believes that, despite a disappointing exit from the Sunningdale Foursomes in the third round, he has what it takes this year to progress from the EuroPro Tour and is as excited as ever about the start of the new golf season.
A weeks hard practice on Lanzarote's only course, where chipping and pitching were a main focus, has sharpened his game. Hanson said, "My golf really is coming together and all the work I have put in is paying off. I have worked harder this winter than ever before on my golf and fitness and really do have that desire to win. I want it more than ever and am really focused for the year ahead."
After a session with club manufacturer Titleist, at Cookridge Hall, Hanson is also mulling over a possible change of irons from his true blades to ones with a half-cavity. "I just want to try them and see if I can get more out of the long irons when my swing is not 100%. The new ZB iron looks great, so I am looking forward to getting those in the next few weeks." commented Hanson.
The signs are already good, immediately following his return from abroad Hanson had two third place finishes in Pro-Am's at Moor Allerton and Hill Valley and felt his game was as sharp as ever. He then produced two excellent performances, the first at Mottram Hall in a Pro-Am where his team finished first and he was tied second individually. The second event was at the North Wales links course of Prestatyn where a two over total gave him a fifth placed finish in an event reduced to 27 holes by bad weather.
He said, "My ball striking has moved up a level and I really thank John and Craig for the winter work we have put in together. Everything is coming together and with a few events in the next three weeks, I am looking forward to getting a card in my hands again and seeing the results."

You have probably all heard and read about the change in law regarding conforming and non-conforming drivers relating to a driving clubs C.O.R. (Coefficient of Restitution or more simply the 'trampoline effect' for you and I) . There has been a lot of press about it and has been one of the biggest changes in the laws governing the game of golf in recent years. That ruling came into effect from the 1st January 2008, however, a number of other changes were also made by the R&A which could effect you during your round. Our columnist and rules of golf expert Sue Kaye highlights some of the main changes.

The two nine-handicappers totaled 40 points to pip a Meltham pairing by just one shot. Longley Parks John Ambler came out on top in the Pro-Am section partnering Adam Walker (10 handicap) to 39 points.
Mear, however, is quick to pint out that for this season the format will be slightly different and everybody in the elite 18 are 'probables' and the format will take on a strokeplay format as opposed to the regular matchplay. He will be using the gathering as an opportunity to look at all players ahead of the start of the Inter-District season with particular emphasis on the six-man team championship which will be played over the Fixby Links. He commented, "I have invited 18 players and all are probables. And though our Yorkshire Inter-Union League matches are matchplay on this occasion, we will play in three-balls in a strokeplay competition off scratch, for which there will be prizes for the best two scores."
Wild, a member of the Ogden Golf Club for almost twenty years is delighted with his appointment. He commented, "My selection as President for the 2008 season is a great honour both for myself and for The Halifax Golf Club."
He added, "I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the Past Presidents for my nomination, to Allan Woodhead the immediate Past President who I have enjoyed working with in 2007, to John Lawrence our Secretary and all the Executive Committee for all their advice and support during my year as President Elect. I look forward to their continuing support during 2008."

The Crosland Heath professional went on to say, "The improvements I have seen in such a short time are amazing. To see my swing on video at the beginning of December and now is great for the confidence. Myself, John and Craig can all see it going in the right direction."
