Happy New Year

Huddersfield Golf would just like to wish all its visitors, both new and regular, a very happy New Year.

With the start of the 2008 golf season only a few months away it won't be long before the clubs are being dusted off, the electric trolley is put on charge and there a few trips down to the driving range to blow the cobwebs away!

How many of you have made New Year's golfing resolutions? We are sure that there are a few of you out there! Maybe it is to practice your short game more or sharpen up on your bunker play. Perhaps it is to play more often or maybe miss that after round drink and get straight back home to the wife and kids! Whatever they are we wish you the best of luck in keeping them.

Our New Year's resolution to is keep on bringing you more of the same in 2008. More local in-depth golf news, more open golf competition entry forms for events at local courses, more golf course reviews and features, up-to-date information on golf clubs plus great competitions and prizes.

As always we will focus on Halifax, Huddersfield & District Union events, Scratch, Handicap and Junior. We will look to bring you the latest league results and tables as quickly as possible plus other information on team matches. 2008 will see us focusing a lot more on Rabbits Golf with the help of the HHDRGA which I know will please a lot of our regular readers. We also plan on expanding our offering for our female visitors with more frequent local ladies related golfing news.

We have acquired a loyal base of followers for the Yorkshire Order of Merit events and will continue to offer entry forms and bring the latest results and reports from these tournaments too.

Christopher Hanson has had a promising year mostly based on the EuroPro Tour and we will look to keep bringing you regular updates on his progress this coming year as we will for other local golfers competing at a national and international level. We also hope to hear again from PGA Captain Parnell Reilly at some point throughout the year.

2007 has been an excellent year for www.huddersfieldgolf.co.uk with the number of visitors to our website tripling from the previous year. However, for much of the above we are reliant on a number of individuals providing us with information so that we can publish it on our website. Our thanks goes out to all those for taking the time to send us a quick email, write-up a report or compile a feature - without these people there wouldn't be a website for the local golfing community of Huddersfield and the surrounding area. If you would be interested in contributing to our website or are ever able to provide us with local golfing news simply email us at info@huddersfieldgolf.co.uk.

As you will see we have had a little bit of a an early spring clean and freshened up the site. We hope you like the new colour scheme and you find the navigation around the site a little easier too. If you have any comments please feel free to share them with us.

Good Luck for the 2008 season!!

Hanson Can't Wait for 2008 Season

Chris Hanson reflected on a year which showed much promise early season but ultimately failed to produce a win that some of his golf deserved.

Hanson led in five tournaments at the beginning of the season and figured on the leaderboard in his first eight tournaments at some stage of the events. With a play-off defeat, a runners up spot and four other top ten finishes in EuroPro/Challenge Tour events Hanson can be proud of his second year as a professional golfer. He commented, "I really feel that I have played very well this year, myself and John Eyre have put a lot of work in and my game is going forward in the perfect direction. The season could have been that little bit better having a win but I have gained a lot of experience from leading events and competing week in week out - and all this will be taken with me into next year - I can't wait!".

About his 11th place finish on the EuroPro Order of Merit he added, "This year has been good and I have played a lot better than last year, my game is improving in all aspects and I am going in the right direction.".

Hanson has highlighted fitness as a key factor to success this coming year, "I had two weeks off after the Tour final and then got straight back in with my fitness and my golf. I am now working with a Physio/sports trainer called Craig Coulson, a member up at the Heath, with an amazing knowledge in this area. This is what John and I believe will take me to the next level. John and Craig have been working alongside each other seeing where my swing faults or areas of improvement are, and bringing my fitness into the swing. In the last two weeks I have seen a massive improvement in my game and on camera where I have done a lot of work with my swing."

The Crosland Heath based golfer is also delighted that the club will be supporting him with a third Chris Hanson Challenge Golf Day, "From the success of last years “Chris Hanson Challenge” the club have decided to run one more event to support my playing career. This is fantastic and I really can’t thank them enough. More details about this day will be posted on my website (www.chrishansongolf.com) and at the club."

Impressive Hanson in the Mix for Tour Card

Crosland Heath's Chris Hanson battled strong winds to post a superb one over par round of 73 at Fairmont St Andrews in the EuroPro Tour Championship.

Hanson lies just two strokes off the pace in the season finale but is in a group of eight players. However, he is in a great position to make a move tomorrow as he aims for a top five finish in the EuroPro Tour Order of Merit which would secure him a place on the European Challenge Tour in 2008.

The tournament has been reduced to 36 holes after yesterday's play was abandoned due to gale force winds which made play impossible on the Torrance course.
