The Woodsome Hall golf course was originally designed by W. H. Colt in 1921/2, and was constructed under the auspices of William Button of Redcar, who later became the club's first professional.
The majority of The Woodsome
Hall course played today was re-designed or 'fine-tuned' by legendary golf course architect James Braid, whose
talent has brought us some of the finest courses in the
world today. Braid was approached to review the course and lend his 'Midas Touch' in 1929 to which he made certain suggestions, particularly to some of the tees, in 1930. Most of these alterations were carried out under the direction of Jack Nield, the club's second professional.
The course is truly an exceptional
piece of work, with some long par-5s, testing par-3s,
very narrow fairways and well manicured greens for
golfers to negotiate.
It measures just over
5807 yards over eighteen holes, but given that the par
is 70, it is no walk in the park, with plenty to keep
you on your toes throughout. Accuracy, concentration
and patience are the key to scoring well. |
