Hardest Par 3 Holes
Par 3 holes are often amongst the
easiest on a golf course, usually only taking one shot to get to the
green and having a high stroke index. There are however exceptions
to the rule and here we examine some of the most difficult par 3
holes in the region.
#1 - Outlane Golf
Club #8 (249 yards)
Why? Tree-lined. Blind Green. Out of
Bounds. Almost 250 yards. Do we need to say anymore?
The 8th hole at Outlane is in our
opinion the toughest par 3 hole you will play in the area. It has
everything that makes it the most challenging hole on their course.
At 249 yards many golfers need to hit their best drive to reach the
green, into the wind it can be impossible. Most golfers tend to
favour a fade or slice and the out of bounds over the wall on the
right hand side instills fear into most golfers who stand on this
tee.
Danger exudes from every angle on
this hole. There is a steep drop for anyone who over compensates and
heads left and a lost ball is an almost certainty if you overshoot
the green. Even straight and short of the green poses problems due
to the hollows and swales in front of a smallish green that falls
away from you.
Because you cannot see the green
from the teeing area this adds to the tension and any golfer making
a par or better on this hole fully deserve their reward.

#2 - Huddersfield Golf Club #13
(215 yards)
Why? A 50 foot ravine between tee and
green make this an exciting but also very difficulty hole.
With the two tiered green perched
into the hillside some 200 yards away this hole is another monster.
The steep slope of the hillside from left to right makes this an
almost impossible hole for golfers with a tendency to hit a natural
left to right shot. The fact that it is followed by one of the
toughest par 4 holes in the area mean that a lot of golfers stood on
this tee are already in a negative frame of mind.
One of the charms of this hole is
that a good shot is rewarded by the visibility of it and often of
those playing the parallel twelfth hole.

#3 - Woodsome Hall Golf Club
#3 (204 yards)
Why? Featured in our "Best Par
3's" section as well this hole is also a real toughie.
Toughness doesn't always equal greatness but in this case the
challenge makes the hole superb.
Visibility is excellent so a golfer
can see his demise or equally his reward from the tee. At a
relatively early stage in the round a long iron or fairway wood shot
is required and can make finding this small two tiered green with a
small bunker guarding it short and right a real challenge.

#4 - Dewsbury District
Golf Club #16 (195 yards)
Why? Only 195 yards but all uphill and
to a green that would better suit a much shorter par 3. Anyone who
has played Dewsbury know that it can be an exhausting round as it is
very hilly, so a long blow required late on in your round is a test
not only of ability but also physical strength. This is not a hole
for the weary.
There is nothing for going right,
except a very difficult pitch/chip shot back onto a two leveled
green with a steep slope separating the levels. Woodland to the left
can often result in a lost ball or a chip out to the side.

#5 - Meltham Golf Club
#17 (182 yards)
Why? Also featured in the
"best" section but also a very hard hole, again late on in
the round when golfers are generally mentally and physically
exhausted.
A sharp drop to the left and a huge
valley between tee and green make this hole one where a large carry
is required.
#6 - West End Golf
Club #15 (213 yards)
Why? A very difficult hole to get
close to the pin due to the deception of size of the green. Although
is doesn't look particularly big from the tee the length of this
green is actually quite long making it very difficult to judge the
correct length.
The slope of the hole from right to
left adds to the difficulty and par is a very good score.
#7 - Halifax Bradley
Hall Golf Club #2 (121 yards)
Why? The shortest hard par 3 and a
surprise entry some may think, but the earliness and severity of the
green, make this one of the hardest in the area.
Only a flick of a short iron for
many the cluster of bunkers and steep slope on the green make this a
real challenging hole. All the danger appears to be short of the
hole but going too far can be the worst place to be as stopping the
ball on the green requires the utmost skill.

#8 - Hanging Heaton
Golf Club
#4 and #13 (249 yards)
Why? Not only can you not see the
green, you cannot see the flag. This is rare on a par 3 but add to
this the fact that there is a quarry between the tee and the green
with a several hundred yard descent, which is also out of bounds
means that this hole easily makes out list.
#9 - Crosland Heath
Golf Club #12 (173 yards)
Why? Crosland Heath has some of the
best par 3 holes in the area, not only for playability but also for
the scenery and panoramic views. Each hole is a challenge within
itself and a high score can be racked up if you tangle with the
heathery quarries.
We have chosen the 12th as the
hardest because it is the longest and probably the most exposed. The
wind factor, usually a cross wind, makes finding this green usually
a two shot affair.
#10 - Longley Park #10
(224 yards)
Why? The fact that this hole, when
played the first time around from a similar position, is a par four makes
sense of why we have included it in our tough list.
A tiny green with trouble to both
sides adds to the hardness and complexity of playing this hole in
three shots.
